Summary:
Author of children's football detective books supports i2i's goal of finding jobs for 5000 by 2012

The story in full:

i2i Director, James Gore met up with author Tom Palmer to discuss ways in which literacy and learning can benefit jobseekers at i2i Coaching Academies around the country.

Tom grew up in Leeds and knows only too well the plight of those struggling to compete for a job.

By his own admission he 'hated reading at school - got three O' levels, so was unable to study for A levels.'

Tom went on to study for a BTEC Diploma in Computer Studies and hated it. After being unemployed for a couple of years, he then discovered reading through a love of football magazines and books.

He studied at  night school in Leeds to gain A levels then went on to Reading University where he studied Modern European Literature - and loved it.

Six new football clubs have signed up for i2i Football 5000 in the North West and negotiations are underway at other premiership clubs to provide training facilities for jobseekers.
