The Work Programme
i2i delivers the Government’s Work Programme in partnership with a number of Prime Contractors across the West Midlands and the North of England (CPAs 6, 7, 14, 15 & 18). In its simplest terms, the Work Programme aims to get the long-term unemployed off benefits and back into work. But here at i2i, we consider our role to be far broader. We’re not here to simply help a customer get a job. We’re here to give our customers the support and training they need in order for them to enjoy rewarding and sustainable careers.
Every customer is assigned a dedicated adviser to coach them through the return to work process. Our advisers take the time to really get to know their customers, which enables them to identify individual needs and requirements. According to the feedback we receive, our staff really do “inspire individuals to fulfil their potential” on a daily basis. Individuals like Debbie from Skelmersdale, who emailed us to say: “Brilliant service from brilliant people. Nothing is too much trouble. They inspire confidence and self-belief to both myself and the friends I have made whilst attending i2i.”Barriers to employment:
There are many factors which contribute to a person being out of work. Some of our customers lack experience, while others don’t have any qualifications. Some are low on confidence, while others lack the social skills needed to get through an interview. i2i works to overcome these problems by offering a wide range of accredited and non-accredited courses aimed at making our customers more marketable.
Our staff also seeks to address any barriers which may have prevented individuals from gaining employment in the past. All of our centres work in partnership with local support agencies, so if we can’t help to resolve an issue, we will almost certainly know someone who can. In Lancaster, for example, we have forged excellent working links with Phoenix Futures, who specialise in helping people with drug or alcohol dependency problems. This collaborative approach ensures our customers receive a support package, which is tailored to their needs. In work support:
i2i’s role doesn’t end once a customer is in work. Every one of our centres has a team of dedicated In-Work Support Advisers who offer advice and support for at least the first 12 months of a customer commencing work. Our In-Work Support Advisers stay in touch with customers regularly and provide assistance in areas such as applying for in-work benefits, dealing with work-related issues and finding appropriate training. Employer engagement:
To ensure our customers have access to the best selection of job vacancies, our Employer Engagement teams work hard to build links with local businesses. We do this by offering employers a free and professional recruitment service, which provides them with a handpicked selection of suitable candidates for every job vacancy. This means that employers have immediate access to vetted and trained job seekers, ensuring vacancies are filled quickly and with the right person, first time.
More and more businesses are now choosing to fill their vacancies through i2i. For example, Music Magpie’s Head of HR Gary Clutton said: “i2i have made my life so much easier. Just last year I said to them: ‘I need more people.’ and they said: ‘how many?’ and I said: ’60’. We ended up splitting them into two intakes over two months, but it all went really smoothly. It just meant we didn’t have to sift through thousands of CVs and waste time interviewing people who didn’t want to work at all. Since then, I just go straight to i2i when I have a job vacancy.
